Lecture 12: Briefing of Final Project

You are to choose one song from the list below, appreciate the song, hear it through and understand the lyrics. You are then required to sketch initial ideas , figure out story line, illustrate and animate ‘moments’ base of your understanding from the chosen song. Then songs list are as below:

Fly me to the moon
The way you look tonight
Come fly with me
Girl from Ipanema
New York, New York

Project criteria
Originality - how unique is your idea
Technique - your basic skills in composition, your illustration style and proposal that fits the song
Interpretation - How did you interpret the song into your drawing
Storytelling - Does your proposal tells a story? Does it show emotion? it's important not just to draw a character standing with a blank expression
Requirements - initial storyline, ideas + sketches| illustration | final animation gifs

Final Project

Week 12

I decided to do Fly Me To The Moon by Frank Sinatra. The song is joyful and romantic, it is an old song and I like it.

As it is a joyful song, I took the lyrics "Fly me to the moon" and sketch it. The first sketch is him flying to the moon on a shooting star or a whale of constellation. The second is a magical girl taking him to the moon like Peter Pan flying with Wendy.

The second sentence "Let me play among the stars". The first sketch is him playing the stars as a piano and the second one is him juggling the stars while planets rotate around him.

"Let me see what spring is like, On Jupiter and Mars" as the next sentence was these, I could not think of any ideas. So, I thought about Spring and some ideas pop up. The first sketch is him taking a stroll in a park on another planet and greeting an alien in Spring. The second sketch is him in space between Jupiter and Mar imagining the stars as strange beautiful flowers.

After hearing Mr Hafiz's advice about just taking a sentence and make it a three part illustration and making it into a satellite base on Wall-E. I started to have some ideas about the illustrations and realize I had to many panels.

 Then Mr Redzwan gave me the advice of using different camera angle to make it and it was very helpful.

I use his advice of it flying through space in the first panel and the second panel of it dropping to the moon while the last panel is "it" on the moon looking around and see all the things there from Mr Hafiz's advice.

I use these as references for the space environment and colours.

I drew Fig. 10, the moon using a software, which is MediBang as well as Fig. 11.1 and Fig. 11.2. I want the background to match with my droid. So, I drew it out.

Week 14

After the advice from Mr Hafiz, I change a bit of the frames. Instead of the droid being hit by a meteor, I change to it falling to the moon.

I use AfterEffect to make the animated GIF.

I then transfer it into Photoshop to lower the resolution.

FEEDBACK

Week 13: Mr Hafiz advice to take a sentence and make it a three part illustration and told me about the concept based on Wall-E.

Mr Redzwan gave me the advice of using different camera angle.

Week 14: Mr Hafiz said the satellite is cute and suggested that instead of the droid being hit by a meteor and change it to the satellite falling to the moon.
