INSTRUCTION

Project 1

Week 3
21/1/2020

Since there were 4 weeks left, Ms Anis decided to brief us on our project 1 and 2. The projects are related, so we can work on it conveniently. The project is about process, it can be anything, but the most commonly used are food, because of the their ingredients and variations.
We have to make an info graph of the process of food. We can pick anything but it has to have a narration/story behind.
I chose a moon cake. It is eaten on the Mid-Autumn Festival and the story is related to Chuseok and Tsukimi.

Week 4 - Week 8
28/1/2020 - 23/2/2020

Project 1

Section: Ingredients, Steps of making, and variety of mooncake.
Fig. 1:  Thumbnail Sketches
Since the mooncake is related to the Mid-Autumn Festival, which has a narrative abut the moon and rabbits. I decided to add the moon and rabbit elements in my infographic.
I was leaning towards for Design 2 because I want it to be a landscape so that I can incorporate more steps in it. I showed them to Ms. Anis and that she liked design 3 because she could see the moon and rabbits and she suggests that I combine the elements of Design 3 in Design 2.

Fig. 4: Version 1 (Info graph)
Fig. 5.1: Version 2 (Without Describtion)
I'm planning to have the rabbits making the mooncake by drawing them (which is a lot of work).
Fig. 5.2: Version 2  (With Description)
Fig. 5.3: White Texts (Info graph)
I changed the texts to white because I want to have the steps to have the colour. It was black because I wanted to separate the mixing part and the making part but I change my mind on it.
Fig. 6.1: Final
After the feedback from Ms. Anis, I change the typeface of some texts and added numbers to indicate the steps. Ms Anis said that she liked the chunking process but the design does not flow well.
Fig. 6.2: Typeface (Bree and Crete)
I was debating the two typefaces for the heading between typeface Bree and Crete. Both almost looks the same, but Bree is more rounded compare to Crete.
In the end, I went with Crete to have a contrast for the big heading of "Mooncake".

Project 2
Fig. 7.1: Animation (Photoshop)
I made a new version of the ingredients and the processes for animation.
Fig. 7.2: After Effect
But I change a few things in the poster. I was planning to make an animation of my info graph but since the maximum time was 60 seconds and my steps were too long for it. So, I change it into a GIF.
The video that I attempt to do.
Fig. 7.3: Version 2 (Without Describtion)
I'm planning to have the rabbits making the mooncake by drawing them (which is a lot of work).
Fig.8: Progression
I used Adobe Photoshop to draw the bunny frame by frame and have a lot of layers.
Fig. 9: Animation 1
I'm planning to make it more smoother and slower.
Fig. 10: Error (Big Image Size)
When I tried to save it as web, this came out and the only solution was to reduced my image size. So, the quality is a bit low. I had to reduced it to 25%.

I made the bunny that is molding the mooncake squeeze more.

REFLECTION

Experiences:
Chunking recipe is quite challenging as there are many procedures to categorize.

Observations:
I should have looked into more recipes to work on than to have a recipe that I liked with a theme. However, I did not regret because I learnt that Mooncakes have to be stored before eaten.

Findings:
My animation is a bit messy and unclear because the last step of Mooncake making is to store them for a day or 2.
